Process of Laser Printing

The term Inkjet Printer is very descriptive of the process at work -- these printers put an image on paper using tiny jets of ink. The term Laser Printer, on the other hand, is a bit more mysterious -- how can a Laser Beam, a highly focused beam of light, write letters and draw pictures on paper?
Laser Printers are also called page printers. They make use of office copier technology. They use laser to produce an image on a photo sensitive drum.the desired output image is written on the copier drum with the help of a loght beam controlled by a computer.with this ,certain parts of the drum surface get electrically charged. Then the drum surface is exposed to the laser beam.these laser-exposed areas attract a tonner that forms the image by attracting itself(toner ink) to the laser generated charges on the drum. The toner is then permenentaly fused on paper with heat or pressure.
Laser Printers as well as LED printers rely on one and the same technology used at first in photocopying machines. Electrophotographic process in Laser Printers, involves six basic steps:A photosensitive surface (Photoconductor) is uniformly charged with static electricity by a corona discharge. Then the charged photoconductor is exposed to an optical image through light to discharge it selectively and forms a latent or invisible image.
At the next step an electrostatic field transfers the developed image from the photosensitive surface to a sheet of paper. Then the transferred image is fixed permanently to the paper, by fusing the toner with pressure and heat. Laser Printers as well as LED Printers offer the best print quality i.e. the highest resolution. The unique difference is the method of exposition or formation of the latent image.Laser Printers rely on a laser beam and scanner assembly to form a latent image on the photo-conductor bit by bit. The scanning process is similar to electron beam scanning used in CRT. The laser beam modulated by electrical signals from the printer's controller is directed through a collimator lens onto a rotating polygon mirror (scanner), which reflects the laser beam. Then reflected from the scanner laser beam pass through a scanning lens system, which makes a number of corrections to it and scans on the photoconductor.
This technology is the major key for ensuring high precision in laser spot at the focal plane, accurate dot generation at a uniform pitch and therefore better printer's resolution.
The average home computer user definitely does not need a Laser Printer. Sure Laser Printer prices have fallen considerably in the last couple of years. But have you look at the cost of laser toner? The average laser toner cartridge sells for over $100. The cost of replacement ink can really ad up on you. Unless you are printing hundreds of pages each day you really don't need a laser printer. Today's Inkjet Printers have incredible print resolution, are very affordable, and replacement ink cartridges do not cost a lot. Generally Laser Printers dwarf the smaller Inkjet Printer.
So if you're looking for something compact, then a Laser Printer is definitely not right for you. If print speed is one of your main concerns, than a Laser Printer might be right for you. Most Laser Printers can print many more pages per minute than the average Inkjet Printer. The parts used in Laser Printers are more expensive than those used in Inkjet Printers. So if something breaks, it going to cost a bundle to fix. I generally look at Inkjet Printers as easily replaced.
Laser Printers are quite and are capable of producing very high print quality. They can print 10-15 pages /minute. High speed Laser Printers can print 300 pages/minute
